We live like in a hole  installation / carts / plastic bags / 2024

My father, while driving a taxi, explains how Užice, the city where I grew up, doesn’t have a breath of wind to drive the stinking substances out of the air. It gets worse every day, he says, adding: look at those carts over there (meaning carts for transporting goods and drinks), if you could load up bags full of air and export them abroad, you would have something earn from.

In Serbia, the intersection of poetry and environmental awareness manifests through artistic installations that highlight air pollution’s pervasive impact. The use of plastic bags to symbolize PM2.5 particles serves as a poignant reminder of the health risks associated with particulate matter exposure, which has reached alarming levels across urban areas.

This installation not only captures the aesthetic qualities of contemporary art but also engages the public in a critical dialogue about daily life amid environmental degradation. As urban populations contend with rising PM2.5 & PM10 concentrations, such art forms challenge individuals to reflect on their surroundings and advocate for cleaner air.
