landscapes of new utopia

Location: Galerie Utopia / 4lthangrund Cultural Center Augasse 2-6, 1090 Wien – Galerie Utopia

Exhibition opening Saturday 21.09 at 7PM 

The exhibition aims to question social and political views on abandoned objects, buildings, and displaced communities from Western Serbia, where multinational companies are trying to open new lithium mines which will further deteriorate the already fragile natural ecosystem. Research for the exhibition is being done during the protests in 2023 around the villages Gornje Nedeljice, Donja & Gornja Dobrinja where the documentation and context of artworks are being made. Intention is to focus on current events and changes, which are crucial for understanding the future and our connections to the past. The walls of an abandoned house, a dried river basin, objects filled with polluted air and captured water—these are things that allude to a present we are not yet willing to accept.
